Drifting in the derrick is reliable
but requires that crew are safely clear as each stand
is drifted. When complete they can return to pull the
next stand ready for drifting. |
Wire-tail
drifting is faster than manual drifting but introduces
problems of:

It
still requires vigilance and time to look for and
locate the drift.
